Finding Semantically Related Keywords* Using SEO Lab Professional

*Please note that the semantic keywords option is different from the Keyword Database tool in the newly updated version of SEOLab Pro.

Finding keyword suggestions for any base keyword

The semantic keyword suggestion tool in SEOLab Professional is extremely powerful and can generate 200-700 related keywords from a single base keyword phrase.

Getting started - New Project

Before we get started, it is always a good idea to start a new project.

Click on the New in the ribbon panel (under the Brainstorm tab) and type in a project name. As an example, let us create a new project called LCD Monitors.

Once you create a project, remember to keep all your keyword research on the subject the project is based on. Start a completely new project if you want to do keyword research on another topic.

The Competition Wizard

Competition Wizard is the heart of the SEOLab brainstorming tool. It contains a box to type in your base keyword and a list that displays all the keywords analyzed so far.

Competition Wizard is very simple to use. Just type in a base keyword and then click the analyze button. Competition Wizard will then connect to the net and retrieve the required information. Once all the required data are available it will be displayed in the main program panels.

The base keyword

The base keyword is your starting point. For example, if you are selling LCD monitors through your website and wish to do keyword research, your first base keyword will be LCD monitor

To get started, simply type in LCD Monitor into the Competition Wizard and click Analyze.

You will soon see the Keywords tab populated with the keyword suggestions for the keyword LCD Monitor. Competition Wizard can generate up to 200 - 700 keyword phrases from a single base keyword! The generated keywords will contain synonyms and related keywords that do not even contain the base keywords.

Clearing the base keyword drop down list

Just type in

<clear>

(including the angled brackets) into the box and click Analyze. This will completely remove all the entries in the drop-down list.

Expanding the generated keyword list

You can also expand the keyword list by doing more lookups on any of the keyword phrases returned after the first lookup. To do this, simply double click on any of the generated keyword phrases.

Copying and / or Exporting the keyword phrases

To copy the keyword to another program or a text file, simply right click within the generated list and select either Copy to clipboard or Copy to My keyword Lists.

Exporting the keywords

After you have copied the keywords to the Windows clipboard, open Notepad, Wordpad or any other text editor and then use the Edit > Paste menu to paste the keywords into the Editor. You can then use the File > Save menu to save the list into a text file.

My Keyword Lists

SEOLab Professional contains a set of keyword lists for organizing the keyword phrases you find. These are called My Keyword Lists and are accessible from the Brainstorm tab or from the Keyword Builder tab.

It is possible to turn off these lists in the brainstorm tab. So make sure that the Show My Keyword List box in the ribbon panel is checked.

You can move keywords into any of the five My Keyword Lists using the right click menu. Use this to accummulate keyword phrases you want to keep and use the different lists to group keywords together. You can then use the Keyword Builder tab to expand the keywords in any of the keyword lists.
